MEET THE MAKER:
RHINO TIGER BEAR
Rhino Tiger Bear is a family-owned and run urban cellar door, showcasing cool climate varietals of the region.
The husband and wife team have a unified love for producing small land parcel, additive-free wines, with refined and elegant character. Combining degrees in microbiology, winemaking and environmental science with old-world winemaking techniques, Owen and Rhiannon play with the intricacies of balance – using underlying principles of biodynamics – to avoid the use of additives.
Using timing and time to grow meticulous vineyards, their purpose is to craft a collection of wines that celebrates the diverse growing conditions on the Mornington Peninsula.
After travelling to make Pinot Noir in the Cowichan Valley on Canada’s Vancouver Island, Owen and Rhiannon returned to the Peninsula – where they had crafted Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris vintages – to open Rhino Tiger Bear.

“WE TRAVEL TO EXPLORE AND GROW OUR LIVES, KNOWLEDGE, AND WINES – TO GROW THE BEST FRUIT WE CAN, TO MAKE WINES THAT EXPRESS THEIR NATURAL CHARACTER AND TO CONTINUE PUTTING THEM IN FRONT OF PEOPLE WHO APPRECIATE THE DIFFERENCE – BUT WE KEEP COMING BACK OUR BEAUTIFUL WINE-GROWING CLIMATE.”
Co-founder and winemaker Rhiannon Goodwin – who named the label after the family names; Rhiannon, Owen (Rhino) and their two boys Fred and Lelo (Tiger and Bear)
